    The White Brotherhood

    the White Brotherhood

The Seven Rila Lakes are a center and a sacred place for spiritual fellowship with the nature of the White Brotherhood - the followers of the occult teachings of Peter Deunov, whom the Master calls them. Each year, on August 19th, the world gathers in the area of the Seven Rila Lakes to celebrate their holiday. Dressed in white, singing, dancing, welcoming and sending the sun under the majestic peaks of Rila.

The Bulgarian Peter Deunov, the White Brother Teacher, is the creator of this teaching, which finds many followers in the US, Bulgaria, France and other countries. In 1878 he went to America, studied theology and followed theology in New Jersey, and then attended the Theological Faculty at Boston University.

The first excursion of the White Brotherhood to the Seven Rila Lakes took place in 1929.
The master and fifty of his followers pass through Sapareva Banya and reach the lakes to stay forever enchanted by the beauty and purity of nature and to become pilgrims in this magical place. For decades they will come each year on August 19 to perform their mysterious rites at sunrise, performing ritual dances under the sounds of a violin or guitar orchestra.

Around 70 years after the first visit to the Seven Rila Lakes, in 1998 they climbed to meet the sunrise and play their Paneurhythmy 3200 dressed in white dunes.
Every rock, every meadow, and every peak here has its place in the life and rites of the White Brotherhood, and its new name, which gives it a deep symbolism.
